Well,
what do you know. Steven Soderbergh appears to have doubled
his fortune (or shot himself in the foot depending on
how you look at it) with twin Oscar nominations Tuesday
for two little movies named ERIN BROCKOVICH and TRAFFIC.
ERIN picked up a total of five noms including: Best Picture,
Best Director, Best Screenplay (Original) Best Actress,
and Best Supporting Actor. TRAFFIC picked up a total of
nominations including: Best Picture, Best Director, Best
Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay (Adapted) and Best Editing.
Steven Soderbergh is the first Director to be nominated
twice since 1934. Soderbergh reacted to the news by saying,
"I can't even put into words what I'm feeling right
now. I think that if I didn't have the distraction of
shooting a film, I would have to be sedated." Way
to go Steven, we're rooting for you. (READ

Director's Guild of America has released its list of
nominees for the year. Steven Soderbergh was nominated
twice for two little films called TRAFFIC and ERIN BROCKOVICH.
Soderbergh's nominations mark only the second time in
the history of the guild that a director has been nominated
twice for his work during the course of a year. The
last time this occured was 1974, when Francis Ford Coppola
was nominated for THE GODFATHER II and THE CONVERSATION.
